Jaworzyna March for small orchestral ensemble, 1945-46
Shortly after the end of the Second World War Andrzej Panufnik focused mainly – in addition to engaging in intense conducting activity – on reconstructing his scores lost during the war and on composing music for documentaries. In 1946 he also wrote, having been commissioned by the Czytelnik publishing house, a small piece entitled Jaworzyna March. Based on a folk tune, the piece was written with amateur orchestras in mind, hence its simplicity and textural transparency. Today the work is completely forgotten, although its published score can still be found in some libraries.
